A handsome and rare monumental Southeast Asian rain drum in a large size diameter measuring over 2 feet wide, crafted in patinated bronze tones and extensive incised decoration. The bronze drum has a stout round form with fine geometric branding. The design features a circular top with concentric registers with a central sun medallion and stacked frog detailing. The hourglass-form body is decorated with horizontal incised bands, geometric registers, applied bosses, looping side handles, and raised ornaments in relief. The sides are decorated with a line of elephants on one side and jumping fish on the other side. The surface displays a beautifully aged patina with mottled dark brown, copper red, terracotta, and green verdigris tones. The drum is very heavy with solid construction on a monumental scale. The form has a well defined shape without any major dents. Functional as a side table, drinks table, accent piece, or as a garden piece. From an estate in San Francisco, CA.
