Set of Six French Empire Mahogany Swan Gondola Dining Chairs

$6,800.00

An elegant set of six French Empire-style side dining chairs, each featuring a remarkable carved swan neck decorative motif. The chairs are constructed from radiant mahogany with arched, gondola-form backs that sweep dramatically inward from a bold rounded crest rail. The graceful sweeping mahogany stiles curve in a continuous arc from top to seat. Each upper corner is adorned with a fully carved swan neck and head with its beak down and eye incised in sharp relief. The arms lead into corner blocks topped with curved scrolling terminals and carved with pointe de diamant reliefs. The front legs are tapered with a gentle saber splay, while the rear legs are curved outward and taper to a fine point. The delicate frames are executed in richly figured mahogany with a warm reddish-brown patina showcasing pronounced grain patterns. Both the back and seats are upholstered in a luxurious velvet jacquard damask in tones of warm tobacco, taupe, and gold, depicting large florals and leafy foliage. The upholstery is lined with with a patinated brass tack nailhead trim. The chairs are sturdy and solid given their design with good joinery and excellent craftsmanship. Crafted in an elegant French Empire style with strong Napoleonic influence. Sold as a set of six.
