Monumental Chinese Export Twelve-Panel Lacquered Coromandel Screen


Very impressive monumental Chinese export twelve-panel Coromandel screen depicting a lush courtyard with figures involved in leisurely activities. The panels are incised and lacquered with vibrant colors and gilt over a dramatic dark red background. Each panel has a decorative fan on the top and Asian Buddhist symbols on the bottom. The reverse side depicts a flora and fauna landscape with exotic birds throughout the scene. The top of each panel is decorated with vases and scholarly objects. Provenance: From the estate of Frank J. Caufield, Montecito, CA.
