Delightful Japanese Showa period two-panel byobu screen depicting two songbirds amid colorful chrysanthemums, morning glories, and flowering iris. The mid-century modern screen is crafted in the Nihonga school style with natural ink and color pigments over hand-made mulberry paper with a dramatic later added gilt coloring to the background. Crafted with vibrant colors and set into an ebonized black lacquer frame with a silk brocade border. Good condition from an estate in Marin County, California.
