Fortuny Scudo Saraceno Venetian Bronze Silk Lamp Chandelier

An elegant Italian bronze and silk "Scudo Saraceno" classic silk chandelier lamp made by Fortuny in Venice. The beautifully crafted piece features a wide hanging fixture composed of a distinctive pierced bronze toned ring with an interior silk shade. The outer bronze ring is crafted with intricate pierced scrolling, arabesque and moorish foliate decoration, and a latticed border. The interior silk shade is made in a hanging dome-form with pleated edges gathered into a radiating pinwheel spiraling out of a central brass rosette stamped "FORTVNY". The silk is in a warm ochre or parchment-tone with hand-finished accents of exotic stylized foliates and geometric borders in bronze and brown shades. A long silk tassel and single glass bead descend from the bottom of the shade. The chandelier is suspended by five metal chains, each strung with amber Murano glass beads, all gathering in a brass ring coupling at the top. The lamp is made in a distinct Venetian style with Moorish, Art Nouveau, and Bohemian influences with exemplary craftsmanship. The entire lamp measures 48" from top to bottom, 30" of which is chain, 8" is lampshade, and 10" is silk tassel. The lamp is the largest of the sizes offered in this style at 38" inches across. The chandelier is designed to let light filter through the silk and penetrates the inlay of the decorative ring to create an evocative atmosphere.
