Chinese Qing Style Sculpture Figure of Bodhisattva Guanyin

$3,800.00

An incredible and large Chinese composite relief figure of a seated Bodhisattva, likely Guanyin, shown in the "Rajalilasana" ("Royal Ease") pose with one knee raised and the opposite arm draped across it. Created by Harold Studios, Inc. who was a mid-century modern American art collective based in Chicago, Illinois, that produced high-quality molded plaster and fiberglass relief wall art from the 1950s through the 1970s. The one-of-a-kind plaster wall panels were produced in very limited numbers by artist at Harold Studios, Inc. The relief features an amazing realistic faux-carved wood finish with intricate details having an aged and weathered patina. The figure is depicted wearing an elaborate, multi-tiered crown with carved ornaments, above a serene face with a raised urna mark on the forehead. A beaded necklace with a floral pendant rests around the neck, and boldly carved, billowing robes gather at the waist with a knotted sash. The piece is cast from a singular piece in high relief with a hallowed back and pierced openwork negative spaces between the body and arms. The surface has been worn to a beautifully weathered finish with a dry, aged wood-like patina. The figure is mounted atop a dark lacquered base crafted to resemble natural rocks in the traditional Chinese manner, with the underside bearing a stamped copper tone artist mark reads "Harold Studios, Inc." Crafted in the Qing Dynasty style, the stunning and extraordinary piece is well-suited for display on a wall, table, or pedestal. From an estate in San Francisco, CA.
