South Asian Cast Iron Buddha Figure Abhaya Mudra Pose 3 Ft

$2,400.00

A beautifully weathered cast iron sculpture of a standing Buddha, created in the late 19th Century to early 20th century in South Asia, likely Sri Lanka. The Buddha is depicted draped in a robe having a serene face, in the classic Abhaya Mudra pose with one hand raised, representing fearlessness and offering divine protection and peace. The Buddha has intricate details with tight snail curls on its ushnisha crowned head and a gracefully flowing robe. The figure has acquired a richly patinated surface with age, with deep russet and umber oxidation, giving the piece an authentically aged and distinguished character. The sculpture is cast with dense ribbings and valleys in dramatic relief, and is presented on top of a later turned hardwood pedestal. Standing nearly three feet tall, the piece is well-suited for use as a decorative accent piece in a variety of spaces. From an estate in San Francisco, CA.
