Grand scale Chinese export twelve-panel Coromandel screen featuring a pagoda garden pavilion with figures engaged in leisurely activities. The panels are intricately carved with thick layers of lacquer having a parcel gilt finish. Made on a large scale similar to the ones Coco Chanel adored and filled her Paris apartment with. Made in the late Republican period of China. The border of the image is decorated with stylized gilt dragons. The panels are supported by brass-clad feet. From a palatial estate in Bel Air, CA. The opposite side of this folding screen features a stark bamboo landscape.
