Chinese Export Six Panel Cloisonné Soapstone Coromandel Screen

Charming Chinese export six-panel lacquer coromandel screen featuring a blue and white cloisonné style border decorated with scholars objects, animals, and vases. The middle of the screen has a fertility motif and depicts 16 young boys engaged in leisurely activities in an idyllic landscape setting. Embellished with intricately carved soapstone and bone. The panels have a parcel-gilt border and are supported by shaped legs ending with brass-clad feet. Rare and unusual with a whimsical style and fantastic blue decoration on the cloisonné items that boldly stand out on the black lacquer finish. The screen has a lovely aged patina and a sparsely decorated reverse side. Each panel still bears all or partial import stamp seals.
