Chinese Export Coromandel Screen After Ogata Korin Irises

A rich and dramatic 20th century Chinese Export folding six-panel double-sided coromandel screen executed in radiant gilt, natural color pigments, and lacquer. The front depicts a beautiful composition of sage-green grasses with iris blossoms strewn throughout in shades of soft lavender and periwinkle. The composition is crafted in the manner and style of 17th century artist Ogata Korin (Japanese 1658-1716) a Japanese landscape illustrator, lacquerer, painter, and textile designer of the Rinpa School. The floral scene is cast over a rich unbroken gold leaf square ground field lined by a black lacquer border. The reverse side is finished in the same black lacquer and decorated in a classical hand-painted style. The scene depicting a sparse composition of a natural landscape of birds in flight, over a vividly colored pair of ducks, flowers in bloom, lily pads and scattered rocks. The screen stands on rectangular legs fitted with patinated brass foot caps. The screen works beautifully as a room divider, art display, statement accent piece, or to anchor a room with warm radiating color. Each panel measures 16" wide for a total width of approximately 8 feet. The lacquer has a desirable rich age faded patina on the finish. From an estate in San Francisco, CA.
