18th Century Dutch Baroque Style Pine Mule Blanket Chest

$2,800.00

A handsome 18th century carved pine blanket chest in the Dutch baroque style with a paneled façade and storage space. Crafted in a rustic Baroque alpine Central European style, likely from Germany, Austria, Netherlands or Switzerland in the 1730s. The front features intricately carved, stepped ornamental panels and a central arched portal panel framed by turned spindle pilasters with a iron keyhole escutcheon. The chest retains iron strap hinges and opens to a generous storage interior with a side lidded till box. The chest is supported by heavy turned bun feet and finished in a warm natural honey pine tone. The pine has a weathered, distressed aged natural patina with old repairs as expected. Functional as a blanket chest, coffee table, coffer, trunk, or end-of-bed storage. From an estate in the Napa Valley, CA.
