Set of Four Fores' National Sports Equestrian Prints by Herring

Amazing set of four equestrian mid 19th century aquatint plates that have been hand-colored. Fores' national sports series after John Frederick Herring who did commissions from Queen Victoria, The Duke of Orlean, and George IV. The plates are each titled #1 Saddling, #2 A false start, #3 The Run in, and #4 Returning to weigh. The prints have incredibly intricate detail and color with a desirable weathered age on the paper. The prints are faded and have foxing with small losses that commensurate with their age. Set in black lacquered frames with mounted borders and windows on each exposing the labels. Sold as a set of four. From an estate in the Napa Valley, CA.
