Pair of Italian Neoclassical Giltwood Camel Stool Benches
$4,800.00
A whimsical pair of Mid-Century Giltwood Italian Curule stool benches crafted in the Neoclassical-Empire taste. The stools are styled after Middle Eastern camel saddle stools in a playful, opulent design. Each stool is raised on subtle cabriole legs terminating in paw feet, with richly carved acanthus detailing and an arched apron centered by a rocaille shell cartouche. The upper open rail structure is joined by turned stretchers and culminates in intricately detailed camel-head finials. The chairs are finished in a dramatic giltwood with an intentionally distressed patina to mimic age. The gilt finish crafted in an old world European manner with a base coat of red rouge under the gold. The seats are upholstered in a vibrant azure blue jacquard/satin with metallic-gold scrolling botanical motifs, finished with a coordinating woven trim. The stools blend multiple styles and influences, including Neoclassical, Rococo, Louis XV, and Regency styles. The benches are sturdy and strong having excellent joinery and craftsmanship in exceptional condition as seen in photos. Ideal as a pair at the foot of a bed, under a console, as footstools, flanking accent pieces, petite benches, or ottomans. Sold as a pair from an estate in San Fransisco, California.
