A highly decorative four-panel red lacquer folding Chinese Export Coromandel screen, richly decorated with a continuous flora and fauna Chinoiserie garden scene. The front features a cinnabar-red lacquer ground with hand-painted and parcel gilt-accented imagery of flowers, branches, ducks, cranes, flying and perched exotic birds, and foliage, anchored by a vivid cobalt-blue scholar’s rock. The detailed painted surface is accented by beautiful gilt accents throughout. Each panel of the composition is bordered with gilt and black scrolling auspicious ornaments, geometric patterned reserves, and elegant floral arabesques. The panels rest upon shaped bracket feet having patinated brass cladding. The reverse is finished in red lacquer with scattered floral and foliate imagery. Each panel measures 18" wide. The painting has a desirable faded and weathered patina commensurate age and use as seen in photos. The bold colors provide a strong anchor to the space with fascinating details.
