A vibrant mid-century modern oil on canvas painting "Still Life with Flowers" by California painter Bryan Wilson (American 1927–2002), dated and signed 1960 measuring 3 feet square. The painting features a loose garden bouquet, comprised of lavender, white, and magenta flowers gathered in a glass jar. The flowers sit against a rich olive ground and a band of hand-painted vertical stripes in black, white, sky blue, periwinkle, and ochre, lending the piece a Fauvist and Matisse-inflected sense of color and pattern. The painting is housed in a simple flat wood frame, and is well-suited for a tradition, eclectic, or modern space. The painting is signed and dated "W 60" lower left. Beautifully painted with a fine light craquelure finish as seen in photos. The painting was retailed by "Gump's" department store in San Francisco, CA with a label and was part of a Michael Taylor Design installation. The reverse carries an original period label from Michael Taylor Incorporated, the celebrated San Francisco design firm. Bryan Wilson (American 1927–2002), was a California-born painter who depicted wildlife, still life, and abstraction and had works displayed in the the Art Institute of Chicago, Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh, Stanford Art Gallery, and the Legion of Honor.
