A striking and dramatic large-scale 6 foot wide oil on canvas painting by artist Ira Yeager (American 1938-2022). The grand painting depicts a recumbent snow leopard rendered in the artist's characteristically loose, gestural, richly worked impasto brushwork. The leopard is rendered in stunning layered strokes of white, dove grey, and hazy grey-blues, punctuated by dark charcoal-black spots and pale chartreuse eyes. The leopard is portrayed with a serene and watchful presence on a painted bed of teal green grass flecked with small flowers. The painting is finished with a wraparound painted border in dusty mauve with a repeating white floral vine pattern instead of a frame, a nod to when Yeager could not afford frames for his works. The painting is executed in his distinctive eccentric style, blending Swedish Country, French Provincial, Folk Art, Safari, and Maximalist influences.
