Early 20th Century Art Deco Canvas and Bentwood Steamer Trunk
$1,200.00
A beautifully constructed early 20th century Art Deco period steamer trunk crafted out of canvas and bentwood with brass and leather hardware. The piece features a painted oxblood red ground decorated with subtle bandings, wrapped bentwood slats, and brass corner guards. The trunk is fitted with original twin brass escutcheon locks, leather carrying handle remnants, and an interior paper lining. The piece retains an original cruise line label from the Gdynia-America Line, hand-inscribed for a passenger Hilda Sachs from San Francisco, CA sailing aboard the M.S. Batory from London to New York. The lid is inscribed with the same hand and address. Likely crafted in the 1920-1930s in an Art Deco style, the piece is well-suited for use as a coffee table, decorative storage, or as a blanket chest.
