Set of Eighteen Baker “Governor Alston” Regency Dining Chairs
$28,000.00
An monumental and rare set of eighteen signed and labeled Baker “Governor Alston” chairs from the Historic Charleston Collection. The set is comprised of two host armchairs and sixteen side dining chairs. Constructed from lacquered beech wood with caned seat bottoms. The chairs are finished in a dramatic ebonized black lacquer with contrasting crisp parcel gilt accents. The neoclassical klismos inspired design is distinguished by the backrests interlocking ring motif, turned crest rail, and parcel gilt-outlined back tablet. The seats are fitted with tight woven cane panels in a dark black lacquered finish, providing a sophisticated textural material and adding an airy element to the chairs. The legs are slender and slightly tapered with gilded and ringed collar elements. The set is finished with vintage fitted seat cushions in light rose or blush tone fabric having dark piping. The entire set is in exceptional condition as seen in photos having very little signs of use. The generous seats have tight, intact caned bottoms. The chairs are from Baker Furniture’s Historic Charleston collection, a renowned line of high-quality benchmade reproductions inspired by 18th and 19th-century designs from Charleston, South Carolina. The chairs blend English Regency and Neoclassical influences to create an opulent well-heeled silhouette suitable for a variety of interiors. Baker Furniture maker's tag and historical plaque underneath chairs. Measurements listed are for the side chairs. Armchairs measure 21.5" wide, 22.5" deep, 32.5" tall, with an arm height of 26". The chairs are sturdy and solid with excellent joinery and craftsmanship. The chairs are in well preserved condition as seen in photos.
