Mid-Century Italian Rococo Style Giltwood Ribbon Wall Mirror

An opulent Italian Rococo-style giltwood wall mirror featuring a pierced, ribbon border. The ornate frame is constructed in an open fretwork, interlaced ribbon design on all four sides, crowned by an exuberant Rococo-style swag crest having a central cartouche medallion. Inside the outer ribbon frame is an inner stepped and molded giltwood frame. The mirror is finished in a warm, antiqued gold with some intentional tonal variation and soft wear adding depth to the carved giltwood. The mirror was crafted by Italian artisans in the old world style with a layer of red bole under the gilt finish. The finish is intentionally distressed to mimic age as seen in photos. The back of the frame is enclosed with wood paneling having a decorative gimp border. The mirror blends Neoclassical, Rococo, Florentine, and Regency elements. The beveled mirror surface alone measures 27" wide by 35" high. From an estate in San Francisco, CA.
