John Hutton for Donghia Block Island Rattan Cane Dining Chair

$2,000.00

A rare genuine and signed "Block Island" rattan cane rush dining chair designed by John Hutton for Donghia in the late 20th century. The chair is beautifully crafted in the organic modern taste with a distinctive mid-20th-century design inspired by Jean-Michel Frank. The rare chair features a large mahogany peaked high-back frame embellished with woven cane or rush in a geometric block pattern. The iconic chair is heavy and solid with tightly woven cane rattan in a checkered square design. The chair is elegant and sophisticated with a warm finish and island coastal sensibility grounded in natural elements. The chair is in exceptional condition as shown in photos. The chair has a branded signature on the bottom by Donghia. New seat pad. This is the seldom seen slightly taller model having the subtle peaked and curved crest rail instead of the flat back crest. From an estate in San Francisco, CA.
