A stylish and rare bent rattan "Pretzel" chaise lounge or chaise longue crafted in a Mid-Century Organic Modern style attributed to Paul T. Frankl (Austrian 1886-1958). The piece features a wide frame crafted from bundled six-strand rattan poles bent into continuous arms with dramatic crossed X-stretchers. The back of the chair is left open, with an airy, latticed seat back having looped supports. The extended seat is also crafted with a rattan pole frame and finished with a solid rattan pole footboard in a bent rattan arch. The rattan is finished with a natural lively aged patina in a warm honey-tone with subtle variation throughout. The chair is finished with large seat and back cushions in a yellow and cream striped fabric accented by an abstract calligraphic pattern to the backside. The fabric while being vintage shows well, and is very presentable. The cushions sit atop a series of ergonomic platforms covered in a black fabric. The large rattan frame is sturdy with solid joinery. The chair is crafted in a distinct blend of Art Deco, Mid-Century Modern, Coastal, Organic Modern, and Palm Beach styles in the manner and style of Paul T. Frankl.
