Rare and oversized pair of organic modern coastal armchairs or loungers with matching ottoman designed by Ralph Lauren in the late 20th century. The large chairs feature distinctive sculptural frames with a gently winged back. The generous seat has wide flat arms measuring 26 inches high. The frame is painstakingly embellished with woven wicker rope having open fretwork stick rattan sides giving the design an airy lightness. The seats have newly upholstered fitted loose seat cushions in a dramatic off-white tone with a thick double welt conforming to the seat. The chairs include a matching ottoman measuring 30 inches wide by 26 deep and 20 inches high. The ottoman upholstered in matching fabric. The frames are sturdy and strong having excellent joinery and craftsmanship. The chairs have an intentional aged patina on the rope as seen in photos. Organic modern rope furniture originated in the South of France during the mid-20th and was made famous by designers like Adrien Audoux & Frida Minet blending artisanal craftsmanship with mid-century lines.
