Pair of Maitland Smith Attributed Tessellated Stone Gondola Chairs
$2,800.00
An opulent pair of modern tessellated Mactan stone gondola side chairs, crafted in the late 20th century in the manner and style of Karl Springer attributed to Maitland-Smith. The chairs feature a creamy or parchment-toned tessellated Mactan stone veneered surface, each section painstakingly hand-laid and polished to reveal the natural veining, variation, and tones of the stone. The chairs are designed in a dramatic gondola form with black upholstered seats and small brass sabots on the feet. Each chair has an open back with a broad top rail, central vertical splat, and sweeping curved side supports descending gracefully into the seat. Both sides of the back are accented with a subtle inlaid accent line of patinated brass. The sculptured form and materials are reminiscent of work by Karl Springer and Enrique Garcel, elegantly blending a natural and organic materials with post-modern and Art Deco influences. The chairs are very heavy and solid with strong joinery and construction in exceptional condition as seen in photos. No maker's mark is visible.
