A grand French mid-century modern bureau plat writing desk, or library table constructed from fruitwood with an inset leather top and bronze accents measuring over 7 feet long. The large case features a continental design with neoclassical Palladian inspired form crafted in beautifully grained honey-toned fruitwood. The writing surface is inset with a large panel of light salmon toned tooled leather having an embossed gilt Greek key trim border. The perimeter of the top is finished with a continuous thick bronze gallery rail. The drawers are fitted with brass pull handles and a brass keyhole escutcheon and original key. The corners of the apron are comprised of corner blocks with carved rectangular accents in relief, leading down into squared tapering legs finishing in collared brass sabots. The desk has ample leg clearance of 25.5" from the apron to the floor. Well suited for a library, study, or office as a stylish writing desk or library table. The case is sturdy and strong having excellent joinery and craftsmanship. The table is in exceptional condition with a subtle aged, and faded patina on the finish as seen in photos.
