19th C. Rustic French Provincial Wicker Grape Harvest Basket
$1,800.00
A beautifully weathered handwoven 19th century French vineyard wine grape harvest wicker basket crafted out of woven rattan reed. The rustic tall basket features a flat back and rounded front tapering from a wide open mouth to a narrow base. The sides are woven in tight reed bands with a thick twisted border atop a wood base. Curved cut wood carrying legs are attached to the back allows the basket to stand on its own. Patinated iron rings and hooks are attached to the rim where straps were previously attached. The basket has acquired a beautifully aged honeyed caramel patina over time. The varied coloration, handwoven character, and authentic wear give the piece a rich rustic character, suited for Farmhouse, Country, and French Provincial spaces. Originally intended for use in a vineyard, the basket is functional as a decorative piece, bread baguette basket, flower display, or as storage for firewood or blankets. The basket itself measures 18.5" wide and 18" deep.
