19th C. English Painted Pine Chest with Georgian Manor Façade

$5,800.00

A charming 19th century English country folk art painted pine storage trunk or blanket chest, hand-decorated with a weathered architectural façade resembling a grand three-story Georgian manor country house on the front and side panels. The tall rectangular pine storage chest features a lift-top lid and pairs of patinated iron handles on each side. The decorated exterior features a warm ochre front punctuated by rows of windows, a ground floor painted in soft grey, paneled double doors with flanking columns, a wrought iron balcony, and a pair of potted topiaries. The sides continue the Georgian and Palladian architectural motifs, all rendered in a hand-painted trompe l’œil fashion. The palette includes weathered shades of ochre, dove grey, charcoal, cream, forest green, and teal. The painted finish has a desirable weathered distressed patina as seen in photos. The chest opens to reveal a weathered natural pine interior with visible plank construction, lock keyhole, and wood battens. The charming piece is crafted in a English Provincial Georgian Country style, and is functional as a blanket chest, storage trunk, side table, lamp table, or decorative accent. No key available.
