19th C. English Painted Pine Chest with Georgian Manor Façade
$5,800.00
A charming English country folk art painted pine trunk or blanket chest, hand-decorated with a weathered architectural façade resembling a grand Georgian manor country house on the front and side panels. The rectangular pine storage chest features a lift-top lid and patinated iron handles on each side. The house is decorated with neoclassical architecture motifs. The decorated exterior features painted walls, a central red pediment, double doors, steps, flanking arched windows, painted sash windows, quoins, and monumental gray columns with scrolled capitals, all rendered in a trompe l’œil fashion. The side panels continue the architectural illusion with additional painted doors, windows, masonry, and staircase details. The palette includes dark oxidized brown and black grounds, muted gray architectural trim, cream and ochre window surrounds, burgundy doors and pediment, and small green shrub details. The painted finish has a desirable weathered distressed patina as seen in photos with an aged country English provincial farmhouse aesthetic. The chest opens to reveal a clean natural pine interior with visible plank construction and interior lid battens supported by iron hinges. The charming piece is versatile, functional as a blanket chest, low storage trunk, side table, or decorative accent.
