1940s Swedish Modern Nordens Flora Botanical Sideboard Cabinet
$18,000.00
A remarkable mid-20th century circa 1940s Swedish modern sideboard, credenza, or cabinet finished with a striking decoupage surface. The sinuous case is embellished with a dense patchwork of Danish botanical Nordens flora lithographs. The Art Deco design cabinet is constructed with a large oak case measuring over 5 feet wide having a molded serpentine top edge raised on boldly scrolled bracket feet. The front of the cabinet contains three gracefully curved doors opening to a large open storage space with shelves. The interior is fitted with 2 drawers finished in zebra wood, and bird's eye maple trim veneer with polished steel hardware pulls. The top drawer is felt lined and fitted for silver storage. A concealed pullout slide inset with white marble is present beneath the top, offering additional surface space. The exterior front and side panels are continuously decoupaged in Norden's Danish flora botanical study lithographs, depicting wildflowers, grasses, ferns, and branches in vivid green, yellow, pink, and white tones, each captioned with its vernacular Danish name and Latin identification. The illustrations are sealed behind a glossy lacquer surface with a beautifully aged authentic patina. The front panels are fitted with brass keyhole escutcheons with an ornate quatrefoil brass key. The cabinet is heavy and solid having excellent joinery and craftsmanship with a desirable aged finish. The cabinet is in exceptional condition given age and use as seen in photos. The case has a distinctive serpentine profile showcasing the fine oak woodgrains on the thick top panel. The unique piece was crafted in the Scandinavian Art Deco period of the early 20th century, well-suited for use as a sideboard, server, dry bar, dresser, credenza, or a storage cabinet.
