Pair of West African Baga Nimba Carved Fertility Mask Sculptures

$18,000.00

Amazing pair of imposing West African Baga Nimba fertility shoulder mask sculptures or statues carved from teak. The headdresses depict busts of women on four legs stands decorated with traditional carved designs by the Baga people who inhabit the Guinea Atlantic coastline. Each carved Nimba mask measures over 5 feet tall with a weathered, distressed patina. They are embellished with patinated brass tack nail heads and tinplate. The original dark finish is almost entirely worn off leaving a desirable faded and distressed aged finish.
