George II Style Mahogany Chinese Chippendale Lacquered Huntboard Sideboard

$18,000.00

Imposing English George II style mahogany hunt board or sideboard featuring a Chinese Chippendale lacquered case in the chinoiserie revival period style of late 19th century Europe. The case has been lacquered in a dark green tone decorated with Asian fretwork and idyllic landscape scenes in a gilt. The lacquer has a desirable aged patina with fine craquelure on the finish. The front of the case is serpentine and fitted with three conforming storage drawers with dividers for silver storage. The drawers have foliate motif patinated brass pulls on each side centered by a gilt urn form having bell flower swag in the neoclassical taste. The top of the case has a protective conforming mirror top with a beveled edge for serving. The glass has a desirable worn patina with de-silvering. The back of the board has a dramatic gallery with four columns topped with urns and an applied gilt finish. The gallery is centered by a large circle supported by an open fretwork of smaller circles in gilt. The table is supported by elegant tapered legs ending with block shaped feet. The Marlborough legs are decorated with Asian geometric fretwork. The sideboard measures 38 inches high and could also serve as a buffet or server. Amazing profile with excellent joinery and craftsmanship. Beautifully aged patina from an estate in Napa Valley, CA.
