Chinese Export Five Panel Coromandel Screen Pagoda Landscape

$3,800.00

Rare Chinese export five panel lacquered coromandel double sided screen featuring figures amid a pagoda landscape. The panels have thick lacquer incised with colorful pigments that have faded. The finish has a desirable aged patina with losses and craquelure. The scenes are bordered by scholars objects on one side and flora & fauna windows on the opposite side. Chinese coromandel screens are commonly constructed in the 4 or 6 panel design and are rarely made with five panels. The thick lacquer finish and aged patina give the screen an 18th century appearance. From an estate in San Francisco, CA.
