An exceptional and rare cast brass and woven leather serpentine "Viper" coffee table or bench designed by Sylvan Fiss for Sylvan S.F., San Francisco, California. The frame of the piece is made up of cast brass viper snake motifs with individually articulated scales in variated shades of antique gold and patinated bronze. The apron transitions downwards into the legs with elaborate coiled clusters, descending down into six out-swept legs tapering into pointed viper tails. The top surface is made up of a brass inset tray with a hand-woven rope saddle leather in a tight weave attached to the frame with small eyelets. The piece was custom made by Sylvan, a San Francisco-based design house known for hand-crafted and rare pieces made from the finest exotic and rare luxurious materials. The bench is quite a statement piece with an elegant Hollywood Regency style having a zoomorphic and organic flair. Well suited for use as a bench, coffee or cocktail table, or accent piece.
