A sculptural set of four exceptionally rare mid-century modern walnut klismos dining armchairs designed by T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings for John Widdicomb. The chairs are crafted in a Neoclassical Klismos form from rich walnut hardwood and the set consists of all armchairs. Each distinctive chair features a dramatically curved tablet crest rail sitting atop a carved walnut pole frame. The chairs are supported by gracefully splayed and tapering legs joined by a X-stretcher. The walnut is stained to a dark, rich tone, beautifully displaying the wood's natural figuring having an original "umber" dark designated finish as stamped to the frames. The seats and top rails are upholstered in the original cream-tone vegan faux-leather with piped edges. The chairs are in very good vintage condition having the original seat cushions. The finish appears to have an older refurbishment with older repairs that are difficult to see. Crafted in a unique blend of Mid-Century Modern style having a Greco-Roman Neoclassical inspiration. The design has an open airy silhouette and a well-heeled profile. The chairs are well-suited for a variety of spaces. Sold as a set of four. A rare opportunity to capture a set of these elusive chairs. Arms of the chairs measure 24.5" tall.
