A richly patinated French butcher's block island, boucherie, or billot de boucher worktable in the French Country Provincial style featuring a rustic thick end-grain blonde maple hardwood chopping surface. The block is mounted on a large, sturdy base with two generous drawers having iron pulls. The top is comprised of a mosaic of tightly set wood blocks arranged in a geometric end-grain, brick-like pattern. Extensive use has given the block a gently dished and saddled concave working surface, along with authentic knife marks and soft worn patina to the surface finish. Massive brass corners protectors reinforce the block and add an industrial note. The entire block is suspended on thick, squared wood legs. The unique piece is functional as a kitchen island, console, or a bar. The work table is very heavy and solid with excellent joinery and craftsmanship. The weathered finish has desirable weathered time worn patina on the European blonde wood and patinated brass adding to the authentic character.
