19th Century French Neoclassical Style Painted Bookcase

Imposing 19th century French library bookcase or cabinet featuring a weathered, painted finish. The two-part case is crafted in the Greco-Roman style with decorative pilaster columns on the front in the neoclassical taste. The upper cabinet is fronted by four large glass doors opening to a shelved interior. The doors are surmounted by a cornice molding on top with a decorative painted frieze having a greek key faded motif. The bottom cabinet measures approximately 34 inches high and is fronted by 2 pairs of storage doors flanked by pilaster style columns. The case has a worn painted finish with losses and paint remnants throughout the piece. Full of character and charm with original lock plate hardware and keys in patinated brass. Very heavy with a grand profile and scale.

Age cracks, chips, scuffs, stains, scratches, losses, shrinkage and old repairs as seen in photos. The back of the top case has been reinforced. Some locks do not function.
