19th C. English Georgian Neoclassical Painted Cabriole Sofa

An elegant 19th century English Georgian Cabriole sofa or settee, featuring a beautifully Neoclassical decorated hardwood frame. The graceful case is constructed with an arched crest rail leading into curved downswept arms. The distinctive reeded top rail and arms are embellished with Adam style painted repeating bellflower accents and dotted borders. The curved arms end in carved square corner blocks with painted rosettes. The eight leg sofa sits atop tapered front legs with ornate bellflower carvings and molded edges leading down to small painted feet. The seat is fitted with a large, loose seat cushion that tethers to the frame. The sofa has been recently re-upholstered with an ivory linen blend fabric. The dramatic fabric design features an aqua and gold woven undulating geometric trellis pattern on the embroidered material. A tidy line of patinated brass tack nailhead trim lines the apron, arms, and back. Crafted in a stately English Georgian style, decorated with painted and carved Adam style Neoclassical accents. The weathered frame is strong with solid joinery and excellent craftsmanship. The wood has an authentic aged and visibly distressed painted finish adding to it intrigue and charm. The cabriole design with its open, carved wooden base and curved lines help soften rooms filled with straight angles and work well in smaller spaces.
