English Regency Style Giltwood Carved Dolphin Serpentine Mirror

$4,800.00

Dramatic twin mythical dolphin or serpentine convex bullseye wall mirror made in the grand English regency or Georgian taste. The large mirror features a pair of mythical dolphins or snakes intertwined and encircling a round glass convex mirror plate. Hand-carved wood with a gilt over lacquer finish having an aged patina. One of the largest and most intricately carved serpent mirrors we have seen. The frame is covered with highly detailed reptilian skin or scales and ends with the pair of opposing heads at the bottom. Very heavy and solid with old repairs and minor losses. The gilt has a dark desirable aged patina in the manner of an early 19th century piece. From an estate in Beverly Hills, CA.
