Grand French 19th century library table, writing table, or bureau plat featuring an Italian Carrara marble top inset. Crafted in the neoclassical Louis XVI taste, the frieze is decorated on each side with strands of delicate bell flowers centered by floral reserves. The corners have carved rosettes and are supported by fluted legs having acanthus tops. The legs are conjoined by gracefully curved stretchers centered with an acanthus finial. Beautifully crafted with a lacquer base covered with fine gilt. The finish has a rich, aged patina with insect holes adding to its character and charm. The frame has excellent joinery and craftsmanship topped with a thick marble slab having an ogee edge inset and fitted to the top. Finished on all sides with an elegant profile. From an estate in Napa Valley, CA. Could also serve as a centre table. The table measures 25.75 inches from the floor to the apron.
