Japanese Edo Six Panel Screen Chrysanthemums on Silver Leaf
$4,800.00
Fantastic 19th century Japanese late Edo period six-panel folding byobu screen featuring flowering chrysanthemums. The screen depicts brightly colored chrysanthemums painted in a moriage style (raised pigment) over a dramatic background of silver leaf squares that have faded into a rich dark patina. The screen appears to be unsigned with Kano school influence. The overall finish has a desirable aged wabi-sabi aesthetic and the once light silver leaf now adds a darker moodiness to the painting. Set in a natural wood frame with patinated brass protectors on the corners.
