Six-Panel Chinese Red Lacquer Screen with Hardstone Inlay

Stunning inlaid panels finished in red lacquer featuring extensive carved hard-stone decoration mounted on a lacquered ground. Formerly a screen and now mounted as six wall panels, with the connecting hardware removed. Scenes depicting 62 young scholars at play among trees, pagodas, and temples. Considerable wear and some losses lend an interesting antiqued and distressed appearance to the screen. Opposite side is decorated with flowers. The screen is supported by shaped feet with metal protectors and brass hangers.
