Rare Early McGuire Organic Modern Bamboo Armchair

Rare and important organic modern armchair that was made after the early prototypes designed by John and Elinor McGuire. These first armchairs were made from bamboo with a more pronounced node and reinforced with wicker strapping. These were only available for a short period, then the smoother rattan with the iconic leather strapping became the norm. Beautiful example of the early original California organic modern design from the mid-century. McGuire brass makers plaque on bottom. From an estate in San Francisco, CA.
