Pair of Louis XVI Swedish Gustavian Style Bergère Armchairs


Gorgeous pair of painted French bergère armchairs made in the Louis XVI Swedish Gustavian taste. The generous frames feature neoclassical motifs with Directoire style column arm supports decorated with acanthus. The square backs have graceful gondola style curves topped with finials on each corner. The lacquered finish is accented with parcel gilt rosettes and foliate embellishments. The chairs have been upholstered in French burlap and feature a deep, loose seat cushion and padded arms. The fabric is bordered with brass tack nailheads. Made in the style and manner of Maison Jansen.
