Fascinating pair of Japanese Showa period six panel byobu screens depicting chapters 14 and 15 on the first screen, and chapters 29 and 7 on the second screen from the narrative tales of Genji. Made in Nihonga School style. Signed with a seal by artist. (From the brush of Yasuchika) screen 1 illustrates Miotsukush (channel buoys) and Yomogiu (the wormwood patch). Screen 2 illustrates Miyuki (The Royal Outing) and Momiji NoGa (Festival of red leaves). Beautifully crafted with ink and natural color pigments on paper with gold leaf. The screens are set in black lacquered frames with silk brocade borders. Each screen is embellished with dramatic squares of gold leaf clouds and intricate figures at play. The screens have a lovely aged patina with losses at the joints. Sold as a pair.
