Neoclassical Directoire Style Painted Caned Settee Bench Seat


Fantastic Mid-Century Modern Italian painted settee or bench seat featuring caned sides and seat. Crafted in the neoclassical Directoire taste of late 18th century France. The lacquered frame is decorated with rosettes and rocaille in a parcel gilt finish. The back seat and sides are caned with the latter having a double caned wall. Gracefully curved top rail conjoined to the seat with column style arm supports on the ends. The seat is supported by six elegant tapered legs with reeded tulip style mounts on top in gilt. The seat is fitted with a conforming seat cushion in red with two matching bolster pillows.

Condition: Good, minor wear with age appropriate wear. Excellent joinery and craftsmanship with age appropriate wear. Intact cane with an aged patina on the painted finish as seen in photos. Paint losses.
