Japanese Six Panel Meiji Screen of Scattered Fans


Large scale dramatic Japanese late 19th-early 20th century Meiji screen depicting numerous beautifully painted fans over a silver leaf square background. Originally a six-panel screen now conjoined into a large two-panel screen. The painted fans are decorated with birds, flowers, and small animals. The background has aged and tarnished into a dark patina of silver squares with a lovely distressed finish. Painted with ink and color pigments on silver metal foil squares and set in an ebonized wood frame embellished with etched brass corners. From an estate in Hollywood, CA.
