Japanese Six-Panel Byobu Screen Spring Floral and Fauna


Large Japanese six-panel screen depicting spring blooms of flowers and birds hand-painted on gold leaf squares. This late Meiji period screen is colorful and showcases the intricate details of birds. The chrysanthemums featured on the screen are painted in a "moriage" style that seem to come off the screen. The painting is bordered with a silver gilt that has beautifully faded over time and the screen is set in a painted wood frame.
