Japanese Four Panel Screen of Hawks in Pine Tree


Dramatic Japanese four-panel screen of two hawks in a giant ancient pine tree. Painted in the Kano school style showing perched hawks lurking on prey with a faint mountain background. Intricately painted with strong brush strokes and colors. Signed and sealed on left side and set in an ebonized frame with a textured silk brocade border. Powerful animals were popular subject matters favoured by elite leaders and military to show symbols of strength.

Condition: Good. Excellent condition and joinery with one small loss 1.5" in pine tree. Very difficult to see through artwork. Bottom right side.
