Fascinating 20th century Showa period Japanese four panel byobu screen featuring a colorful scene from a Heian era ancient narrative tale such as tales of Genji. Made of ink and natural pigments on gilt paper with an artist's signature reading Kokup. Set in a black lacquered screen with a silk brocade border. The screen has vibrant colors featuring deep indigo blues and shades of green with figures in colorful robes. From an estate in San Francisco, CA.
