Japanese Byobu Shell Gathering After Katsushika Hokusai

Stunning Japanese four-panel Byobu screen of women shell gathering at low tide after Katsushika Hokusai (Japanese 1760-1849) watercolor on squares of gold leaf. Amazing painting where the figures seem to come off the page with their brightly colored outfits against the muted gilt backdrop. Intricate details and textures throughout with a foreboding green sky above. This Painting must be seen in person to truly appreciate the dramatic use of color. Signed with a seal on bottom right.
