French Louis XVI Swedish Gustavian Style Marquis Bergère


Remarkable French painted marquis bergère armchair made in the Louis XVI Swedish Gustavian taste. Generous oversized marquis frame features neoclassical motifs with Directoire style column arm supports. The large square back has graceful gondola style curves topped with finials on each corner. The aged lacquer finish is accented by gilt acanthus, rosettes, and trim. Upholstered with a French burlap and features a deep, loose seat cushion and padded arms. The burlap is bordered with brass tack nailheads. Lovely from any angle. Made in the style and manner of Maison Jansen, circa 1940. From an estate in Beverly Hills, CA.
